Bio
for Coach Yoder
I grew up in California (San
Francisco bay area) where I loved playing basketball and running. You
might meet me running on area trails. I lived in Fairfax from 1982-1990
and I have lived in Oakton since 1996. I've been married for 29 years
and have three daughters. I work for IBM in their Microelectorincs
Business.
This is my fourth year coaching for the Vogues. Over the past six years
I've coached several teams at the AAU, County Select, and summer
leagues. I find it is a good way to combine my love for basketball and
teaching. Watching the girls improve and succeed is a real joy.
My approach to basketball stresses fundamentals and team play. I prefer
man-to-man defense as it emphasizes defensive skills and an up-tempo
game. However various zones will also be used in certain situations. The
goal for this team is to qualify for and compete in the AAU Division II
National Championship. This year the National Championships are in Kings
Island Ohio, July 9 - July 14.
All players should be available to play in this tournament.
The local district qualifiers will take place sometime in late
April or early May (TBD). The qualifiers and the National Championships
are the most important tournaments. Other weekend tournaments are
primarily for player/team development. Most of the tournaments will be
in the Washington metro area. Each weekend tournament typically consists
of 4 games over 2 days. The team will play about 3 tournaments a month.
There will be an out of town tournament at some place fairly close such
as Richmond or Charlottesville. We will not play Easter weekend. Ideally
the team will have 12 players. We will practice twice a week.
Participation in another sport is OK provided team play is still
achieved.
