Information for Coaches Bio
for Coach Fred Priester Coach Priester has been the Head Coach at Oakton High School for the past twelve years and his teams have won 8 District Championships, 2 Regional Championships and been to the State Final Four twice while compiling a record of 268 -52. Prior to Oakton, he coached at Mc Lean High School for 14 years – 10 as the Head Coach and holds the record for most wins at MHS with 130. A native of Indiana, his passion for basketball comes naturally. His approach in AAU involves emphasis on skill development and understanding of the game. ”Learning how to play is as important as improving skills, but they must go hand in hand for the player and ultimately the team to advance.” He understands that basketball though an important part of his players’ lives is only one part of who they are, so he maintains a flexible approach to scheduling conflicts and only asks that each player put in as much effort as possible. His style provides playing opportunities for every player in every game. Though he recognizes that certain game situations may call for certain line-up adjustments, he believes that every player on an AAU team has the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the success of the team. Coach Priester has coached high school football for 11 years, and last season completed his 27th year as an assistant baseball coach. He is also Director and head instructor at THE BASKETBALL PLACE (www.thebasketballplace.com), a basketball shooting and skill development academy in Herndon. He has four children including daughter Emily who played for him at McLean High and who played Vogues for 8 years, starring in high school and going on to play at Columbia University.
